Assays & Reagents are critical in the effective diagnostic testing for diseases, pathogens, and various other targets. Offering these specific tests to patients can be a challenge when your do not have access to the right supplies for your equipment.

This is why AMCAR Scientific is preparing to announce it's new division devoted to the development and production of quality assays and reagents for use in the healthcare industry. These products will provide hospitals and laboratories a dependable, trusted local source for quality supplies.

What are Assays?

Assays are used to analyze specific biological markers for diagnosis or monitoring of risk factors. Hospitals and labs use these assays to determine whether a clinical sample contains a targeted analyte. Assay can measure the presence, quantity, intensive property, or activity of the assay target, which can be any of the following:

  • Chemical elements
  • Cells of organisms
  • Compounds
  • Drugs
  • Microbial Pathogens
  • Organic samples

Diagnostic assays are defined by a set of reagents — a substance or mixture added to a system to cause a chemical reaction — which produces detectable signals for assessing a biological process. Reagents reveal the presence and validity of a target and offer clinicians a close-up view of the sample’s biological profile.

What are Reagents?

Reagents are an integral part of any chemical reaction. This substance, or compound, can facilitate a reaction, and those reactions are used in the testing for various targets and pathogens.

While sometimes called "reactants," reagents trigger chemical reactions and they are commonly used to test for the presence of certain substances, as the binding of reagents to the substance can trigger certain reactions which are detected in the diagnostic testing process.
